Out To Sea For Me

Journal Entry: Wed Apr 16, 2008, 3:01 PM

Deployment time again for me. I get to go back to a sea command and lead a small, talented team of photographers and journalists and document events and exercises. Since the internet access is nil to nothing out at sea, I will not be posting too much over the rest of the year. I already post sporadically, but now it will be even more so.

Although I am quite ready to retire from the US Navy, I am eager to take these junior Sailors out to sea and perform our Public Affairs mission. My enthusiasm for time spent at sea is dead, but leading talented people who are new to the Navy lifestyle gets me kind of amped...kind of.

I started drawing digital images on board USS Kitty Hawk back in 03, so hopefully I can find some time to do the same on this next ship, but I don't expect it.

Thanks for all support and take care. I will checking this site from time so please leave me a message, I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Time is always odd like that... It is swift when we are unsuspecting and crawls when we pay attention. The good news is that two more years is not a long time in the scope of things. :)

Congrats on rolling over the 4,000 benchmark! :blackrose:

Thanks, 2 years is not long, but the Navy tends to suck the life from you. Thanks for the insight.

I suppose I was being a bit of a "Captain Obvious" there. I should know better, especially since there is life sucking involved.

Your favourite movie list is really close to mine and so is your music list... although Flotation Toy Warning is news to me. Should I check them out?

If you like Pink Floyd and being happy...they are amazing. Here is their Myspace page with some samples. [link]

Thanks! I'm listening to them now! I like!

I like oldies (since I'm an 'oldie';) but I especially like indie pop/rock and avante garde. I'm always looking for new original sounds and for the last few years I've been finding them right here in Canada: Caribou, The Dears, The New Pornographers, Final Fantasy and Sunset Rubdown (offshoot of Wolf Parade) are few bands you may wish to check out. Google Radio3 Canada (which leads to New Music Canada) for totally cool Canuck music.

Lately I'm really into The Eels and The Starlight Mints.:) I've been re-listening to a lot of 80s music too. Um... I saw the Pixies live the last time they were in Toronto.:) I fell in love with them in the 80's and had seen them live a few times at smallish venues.

I am already a fan of the New Pornographers, and Sunset Rubdown. I will try the others. Also try Pilotdrift, Say Hi To Your Mom, and Midlake.

I jotted these down. Thanks! The second band has the best name in the world.:)

Another deviant who has really cool taste in music is ~Culen He does nice art too, mostly portraits and figures in oil paint.
